OKLAHOMA CITY – Most people have that one album that changed their lives, that one album that they connected like no other. For the-then 12-year-old Randy Cordeiro, it was Neil Diamond’s 12 Greatest Hits on 8-track, a Christmas present that not only introduced him to the world of the consummate singer-songwriter, but would set him on a lifelong path of sharing that feeling with the world.

Also known as Surreal Neil, Cordeiro is the lead singer of the world-renowned Neil Diamond tribute band

Super Diamond, not only the most popular Diamond tribute in the world, but one of the few that have even performed on stage with the man himself a few times.

Oklahoma City will have a chance to experience Super Diamond for themselves as they have been selected to headline Bricktown NYE 2016, a New Year’s Eve party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center, 429 E. California Ave.

When asked what makes Super Diamond’s tribute so special, Cordeiro believes that it’s because it “timeless music” that spans every generation, as well as their own special touches they put on each performance that makes it their own.

“It’s all Neil Diamond songs but we do them a little heavier with a little more distortion, a little more hard rock, a little more psychedelic, a little more alternative,” Cordeiro said. “We add in influences from some of our other favorite bands like Van Halen, Pink Floyd, the Cure, Depeche Mode…we just kind of like to pick other stuff we like and meld it together with the Diamond tunes and see what happens.”

While such a departure in sound might seem a bit unsettling to purists, Cordeiro said that in 23 years of performing “even the die-hard Neil fans dig it,” receiving accolades from every generation who’s had a chance to see the band do their thing.

In addition to Super Diamond, Bricktown NYE 2016 will also include the state’s largest balloon drop, music by DJ Saad and Blake O, free domestic beer until 10:30 p.m., a cash bar, a video countdown and a champagne toast at midnight. General admission tickets are $50 and a reserved table for four is $100 per person.

Having never played Oklahoma City before, Cordeiro and the band are excited to ring in 2016 here and promise that it will be a hot new year’s night they won’t forget anytime soon.

“It’s a party,” Cordeiro added. “There’s so many songs that are great to party to—“Forever in Blue Jeans,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,”—these are high-energy party songs that everybody knows and loves to sing along to. These are fun songs that everybody grew up to that and really get any party started.”
