ALBUM REVIEW: Japanese Breakfast – Soft Sounds From Another Planet (Dead Oceans) 2017

Having heard good things about Michelle Zauner’s musical project Japanese Breakfast, I checked out a few tracks online and really, really liked what I heard.

From “Diving Woman to “The Body is a Blade,” Japanese Breakfast offers bittersweet lyrics put over gently burbling “soft sounds” of vocals mixed with strummy guitar sounds, synth flourishes and light percussion.

It all creates a pleasing, dreamy vibe that works well and matches this winter season. Soft Sounds From Another Planet, which has been spinning quite a bit this month here at Red Dirt Report is one of our favorite records of 2017.
