OKLAHOMA CITY – While working for DNA Galleries in the Plaza District, Hannah Royce said that she found herself admiring the many “amazing” women she would come in contact with, women she said were doing “confident and bold” things with their lives for the community and beyond. It was these women that inspired her to create Confidence Con, a two-day empowerment event that is currently celebrating its second year.

“I really wanted to give these women a platform and showcase for what they were doing and, more importantly, I also wanted to learn from them, like how are they doing this while supporting their families and so on,” Royce said. “We find these women are giving back to the community, shaping it and making it what we get to enjoy often times, so I felt like they needed a place to not only tell other women their trials and tribulation of what it takes to be a professional, but also to connect with other women that are in our city. It’s a sisterhood that we aren’t able to find by just going through our normal everyday lives.”

Royce believes that Confidence Con not only gets women out of their “comfort zones,” but also helps women take back a culture that, often times, forces them to compete against each other instead of finding ways to work together for the betterment of all parties.

“Women are pitted against each other so often and it’s not fair to compete against another woman that could be doing great things and giving back to her community,” Royce said. “The basis of Confidence Con is how we can provide self-love to ourselves and how it pours back into our community and that allows us to do some awesome, purposeful things. When we’re not taking care of ourselves, we’re not truly confident.”

Discussing everything from business to spirituality, Confidence Con will be held April 7-8 at 1212 N. Penn Ave. Tickets are available at

Designed as a “weekend of radical empowerment for all women,” events include panels featuring State Rep. Cyndi Munson, artist Tiffany McKnight and fashion designer Sarah Nsikak, to name a few, as well as live music, interactive activities and numerous opportunities for networking.

“Women are so much stronger together,” Royce added “It’s going to take a movement of compassion to heal us, to heal this state. That’s why I do feel it’s important to talk about the things that aren’t talked about here. We like to shove things under the rug or keep all kinds of secrets bottled up. Confidence Con is about the importance of being transparent moving forward, learning how we can help not only help each other but our children and the future of this state.”
