Gov. Mary Fallin honored to be among the names mentioned as possible Trump vice-presidential candidate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Addressing the annual gathering of the Oklahoma Press Association on Saturday, Gov. Mary Fallin was questioned by Red Dirt Report about whether or not she would accept an offer from Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump to be his vice-presidential running mate.

“I wondered how long it would take to get that question,” Fallin replied, as the room full of journalists chuckled here at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City.

“Let me just say that this presidential election has got the attention of the American people. It’s an unusual election cycle,” the Oklahoma governor said.

“I have not had a call from Donald Trump or his staff saying ‘will you be my VP,’” Fallin said. “So, let’s just make that real clear.”

Fallin said that when her name was being bandied about on the political shows a little over a month ago, her focus was on her duties as governor and on the state budget.

“I can’t tell you how many hours I spent on the budget and how many hours I spent on the House floor, the Senate floor, on the fourth floor of the Capitol in general trying to get a budget deal done,” she said. “It’s certainly nice to be mentioned, as an Oklahoman, for a job as important as vice president.”

The 61-year old Republican governor, however, did not specifically say she would accept such an offer from Trump, however.

Nevertheless, Fallin, a former state legislator, two-term member of the U.S. House, and a three-term lieutenant governor, has said she endorses Trump “100 percent,” having noted in early May that Trump is a “conservative, pro-business Republican who strong on national defense,” qualities she strongly supports in a potential president.
