EDMOND, Okla. – On Saturday, March 8th, the Libertarian Party of Oklahoma held its state convention.

During this convention, members present unanimously passed a resolution calling for the legalization of marijuana, cannabis and hemp in the State of Oklahoma.

Incoming State Chairman Steve Long stated that “The war on drugs is destroying this country from the inside out. It is destroying families by separating them through incarceration for non-violent crimes. It is destroying us economically due to the billions that this country pays to fund this ongoing drug war. The fight against the war on drugs is a fight for personal choice. It is a fight against the rising police state in this country. The fight against the war on drugs is quite simply a fight for liberty and that is why it is so important to libertarians. That is why the Oklahoma State Libertarian Party has chosen to help in this fight.”

Also joining the fight is a group of politically-active citizens in Oklahoma City that have put together a petition drive to get the people of Oklahoma City to support the decriminalization of marijuana there.

Today, a group of these activists will be gathering signatures outside the Chesapeake Arena from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. just before the Thunder game.

There will also be another group gathering outside the Conservatory on Wednesday, March 12, between 7 p.m.-8 p.m. before the scheduled Nicole Atkins concert.

Those interested in signing the petition will have 2 other chances this month to come support the decriminalization of marijuana in Oklahoma City. On Thursday, March 13 outside Chesapeake Arena from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Friday, March 14 at Live Plaza between 7 and 11 p.m.
