OKLAHOMA CITY - Robert Bates has been exonerated by the FBI following the accidental fatal shooting of Eric Harris on April 2, 2015. Robert Bates is a “reserve officer” and unpaid volunteer for the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

The video of shooting, caught on an officer’s sunglasses camera, caught Deputy Joseph Byars comments immediately after the shooting. After being shot, Harris can be heard saying, “You shot me, man. Oh my god.” To which the Deputy Byars replies, “You fucking ran, shut the fuck up”, and, shockingly, “F*ck your breath.”  Deputy Michael Huckeby is seen kneeling on Harris’ head.

Deputies Byars and Huckeby have received threats for their respectives roles in the incident, Sheriff Stanley Glanz said, according to the Tulsa World.  “The deputies have been reassigned for their safety,” Glanz said at a press conference on Monday.

A petition posted on April 15th on the Credo Mobilize website "demand(s) that Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz immediately terminate Deputies Michael Huckeby and Joseph Byars for their inhumane treatment exhibited during the arrest and murder of Eric Harris."

The group posting the petition states that "we the people Oklahoma contend that this type of 'big game hunting' has no place in policing. Officers should be trained to de-escalate situations instead of showing a complete lack of regard for human life as these two did, on camera."

Comments on the petition include "I assume by policing you mean 'protecting and serving' it seems protecting and serving has taken a back seat to policing. If this trend continues we will all be fighting for breath, hopefully not with a bullet and a knee in our backs!"

The petition is posted on Credo Mobilize website and has recieved 1114 signatures as of this post.
