Ukraine's fascists facing their own "Night of the Long Knives"?

OKLAHOMA CITY – With U.S. and European oligarchs, financiers and bankers nervous about the bad publicity the fascist thugs in neo-Nazi Right Sector and Svoboda are giving them in Ukraine, it appears we are getting a latter-day version of “The Night of the Long Knives” as we begin beginning to witness the political murders of ultra-nationalist “brownshirts,’ as occurred in 1934 Nazi Germany when Hitler purged the Sturmabteilung (SA) brownshirts.

The BBC reported Tuesday that key Right Sector leader, a much-feared Ukrainian nationalist thug named Oleksandr “Sashko Bily” Muzychko, was shot dead by police and Sokol special forces in a café in the western Ukrainian city of Rivne. Three of Muzychko’s lieutenants, who were in the café armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles and Makarov pistols, were nabbed and reportedly taken to Kiev for questioning.

Right Sector fascists are notably angry about the political murder of the radical militant Muzychko, which some are comparing to Hitler’s murder of “brown revolution” storm trooper leader Ernst Rohm, during the notorious and bloody Night of the Long Knives.

“We will avenge ourselves on (Ukrainian Interior Minister) Arsen Avakov for the death of our brother,” said Roman Koval, representative of Right Sector’s Rivne region in a story on the Ukrayinska Pravda website. “The shooting of Sashko Bily is a contract killing ordered by the minister.”

The neo-Nazis added that Muzychko had his hands tied when he was shot dead, wearing his trademark Oakland Raiders football jacket.

Avakov, meanwhile, responded to the fascist's threats, telling the "bandits" and "gangsters" that he is willing to accept any challenge they send his way.

Of course Muzychko, notes Russia’s, was a key figure in the U.S.-backed “Chicken Kiev” fascist coup last month, which forced Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych from power. But now that the elites are taking control, Muzychko - like Hitler's brownshirts - was no longer needed.

And like any expert chess player – and in Russia there are many – Vladimir Putin has quietly and bloodlessly (mostly) reclaimed Crimea from Ukraine and watches as Ukraine flails about.

The other fascist group, Svoboda, is more closely tied to U.S. officials considering the friendly relations their leader, Oleh Tyahnybok has had in recent months with Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman protoge Chris Murphy (D-Ct.) Svoboda is a little more “polished,” as they have downplayed their anti-Semitic views in recent years in an effort to better their political influence, following the lead of Le Pen's FN in France. McCain and Murphy seemed perfectly comfortable smiling for the cameras in Kiev last December alongside the odious Jew-hater and Russophobe Tyahnybok.

These same guys are the ones who roughed up a Ukrainian TV CEO a week or so ago and “shoved him into an SUV” and took him to an undisclosed location.

And the Right Sector may be right about this being a “contract killing.” Speaking to RIA Novosti yesterday, former senior Ukrainian intelligence official Valentin Nalivaichenko said a “special operation” was put into play to take Muzychko “off stage” because he was beginning to discredit the new Ukrainian puppet government which was beginning to distance themselves from the “muscle” that led the coup and placed “our man in Kiev,” Arseniy “Yats” Yatsenyuk, in power – at least temporarily.

“The goal of the operation was not to capture, but to neutralize Muzychko,” Nalivaichenko told RIA Novosti, as reported by RT (Russia Today).

A noted anti-Semite and violent hooligan, his shocking actions since the coup had made him a wanted man. And he was already wanted in Russia, notes RT, for “allegedly torturing and murdering at least 20 captured Russian soldiers during the first Chechen War in 1994-1995.”

But don’t expect the Right Sector to go quietly. Some reports say Right Sector thugs have infiltrated the Kiev police forces and are on “street patrols” armed with guns and baseball bats. They are threatening Jews and entering the homes of alleged “pro-Russian” Ukrainians and take their possessions, not unlike American-styled “asset forfeiture.” Right Sector reactionary gang members – possibly as many as 5,000 - are also “being incorporated into a newly-organized National Guard” – echoing the SA of Nazi Germany.

“The population (is) in a state of terror they liken to the Stalin-era terror,” notes one report.

And the crazed ravings of disgraced former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is not helping matters, particularly when she injects very dangerous anti-Russia rhetoric, saying Russia should be turned to "ash." And foul-mouthed U.S. diplomat and neocon Victoria "Fuck the EU" Nuland is not helping matters either with her bellicose, pro-coup statements.

Political commentator and vocal anti-fascist Webster Griffin Tarpley, on his World Crisis Radio program, said this week that the “Finlandization” of Ukraine – making it neutral territory - would be a good move and help avoid a possible wider war and the sobering possibility of a nuclear war.

He also noted that the "Maidan (square) fascists" need to be stopped and the U.S. needs to stop meddling in this growing crisis.

"It's in everyone's interest to humiliate and suppress fascism," Tarpley said. "When you are dealing with fascism, strangle it in the cradle."

But every indication from the U.S. is that we are in bed with the fascists in Right Sector and Svoboda and all the Stepan Bandera/Hitler lovers in Ukraine.

In the meantime, some commentators are saying Russia's takeover of Crimea could actually help Ukraine by relieving them of billions of dollars of debt.

And while the U.S. government and Obama administration warns that Putin is seeking to “encroach further on Ukrainian territory” and has large numbers of Russian troops on the Russia-Ukraine border, little if anything is being said about the alarming rise of fascism in Ukraine, which the U.S., EU and NATO are backing. One can’t help but think all this will end badly, unless something is done quickly.
