OBSCENE: Trump's true "Il Duce" colors come through via Twitter

OKLAHOMA CITY – We can’t say we didn’t warn you about the true face of Republican presidential frontrunner and billionaire demagogue Donald J. Trump.

It was back in July, in our piece “Swan dive or belly flop? Is Trump America’s future ‘Il Duce’?”

Like Italy’s Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, we noted that Trumpism was on the rise because of forces – like those in 1930’s Europe – were coming together.

We wrote: “It is amidst these choppy political and economic waters when a guy like Donald Trump – an over-the-top, narcissistic, anti-immigrant fascist - can tap into that frustrated portion of America who respond positively to attacking “the other” and blaming whatever scapegoat doesn’t look like them. Trump’s race-baiting, xenophobia and belligerent nationalism, as this powerful Salon article noted this week, is resonating.”

And while some readers dismissed our comparison between Trump and Mussolini – nicknamed Il Duce (Italian for “The Leader,” comparable to Hitler known as “Der Fuhrer”) – we see that Trump willingly retweeted a Mussolini quote from his @realDonaldTrump Twitter account: “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.” This originally came from a Twitter account set up by the political and cultural website Gawker, under the Twitter handle @ilduce2016.

This is very alarming. And when the Mussolini quote – approved by Trump, mind you – was noted by Meet the Press host Chuck Todd yesterday, Trump replied: ““It’s okay to know it’s Mussolini. Look, Mussolini was Mussolini. It’s a very good quote, it’s a very interesting quote, and I know it. I saw it. And I know who said it. But what difference does it make whether it’s Mussolini or somebody else? It’s certainly a very interesting quote. That’s probably why I have between Facebook and Twitter 14 million people when other people don’t.”

Now, take time to read that quote again a couple of more times and think about it. Trump is defending the quote and doesn’t even care that it came from a brutal thug who routinely had opponents murdered. In fact, didn't Trump once say he could murder someone and no one would care? And yet reactionary voices in the media like Alex Jones and Matt Drudge are promoting Trump's every action and every move. They are showing their true colors just as Trump has been for many months now.

And while a lesser-thug like New Jersey Gov. Chris "Soprano" Christie has endorsed Trump, Christie - like the brownshirted goons of old - is likely to be stabbed in the back as well.

This past September, Red Dirt Report reviewed David I. Kertzer’s book The Pope and Mussolini: The Secret History of Pius XI and the Rise of Fascism in Europe. It’s a fantastic and enlightening read, because it shows how Pope Pius XI and the Roman Catholic Church in Italy eagerly supported Mussolini and the Fascist movement in that country.

At the time I wrote: “Interestingly, this philandering egomaniac (Mussolini) with a penchant for military flair and pomp was, in his younger years, drawn to "godless" Socialism. He hated priests and never attended church. But when the Socialists kicked him out for an infraction, he found a future in Fascism.

And just watching the fanatical, political rise of neo-fascist and popular Republican (once liberal) presidential candidate, Donald Trump, an odious boaster who spews fatuous lies on a daily basis, while exposing us to his gasconade and contemptousness, one can't help but see comparisons between the billionaire bully and the eye-bulging Milanese opportunist of 80 and 90 years ago.”

Trump – a pretend Christian who has seen Christian Evangelicals rally to his side - has a veritable army of defenders who see a guy who "has it all" and claims to be "one of them." He has them all fooled.

And not only is Trump openly quoting Il Duce, but he is refusing to disavow open support from the Ku Klux Klan, white supremacists and David Duke. Trump's supporters have to be shocked by this, right? Right?

As The Huffington Post noted that Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, a long-time defender of Trump and former congressman from Florida's "Redneck Riviera," is now saying Trump's actions are "disqualifying."

"It’s breathtaking. That is disqualifying right there," Scarborough said Monday. "To say you don’t know about the Ku Klux Klan? You don’t know about David Duke?"

Trump stands for hatred, bigotry, glorification of wealth, misogyny, violence, xenophobia and everything America claims to be against. Trump is an enemy. He is an enemy of the First Amendment and has made it clear that if elected, he would come after newspapers and journalists. He would want to shut Red Dirt Report down, just as Mussolini, Hitler and Franco did 80 years ago.

History is repeating itself and people need to wake up that fact. This is a red alert, y'all!

And yet Trump is likely to sweep the Republican primary here in Oklahoma tomorrow. Interesting that a secular Jew, democratic socialist Bernie Sanders, has had the most Christ-like attitude in all of this, telling a large Oklahoma City audience that his campaign and supporters are fighting Trump's hate with love.

Something to think about, Oklahoma.
