OKLAHOMA CITY - Kevin Durant has been awarded the NBA Most Valuable Player trophy.

During his emotional acceptance speech Durant he recalled his early life and how he "felt like there was no getting out."  His mother took him to a basketball game and  he said, "when I walked into the gym I fell in love with the game."

Durant's early goal was "to stay home and help the kids out and coach".  He described winning the award as "surreal."

He thanked all those people who believed in him when he was younger and said he was inspired to help people through basketball.   Durant said, "basketball is just a platform in order for me to inspire people."

He thanked each of his team mates by recalling how they met and encouraging moments he had experienced with them.

Durant gave a special thank you to his mother, Wanda Pratt, who introduced him to basketball and continues to inspire him.  Durant called his mother the "real MVP".
