OKLAHOMA CITY – When Kevin Durant announced last July that he was bolting the OKC Thunder for the Golden State Warriors, fans were pissed, and the state of the Thunder seemed to be in mourning. After all, KD had talked about how he loved living in our fair city.

“I love it here, man. I love my teammates, I love the city, I don't really think about anywhere else,” Durant once said. “It feels like home. I’m one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career.”

OKC fans thought he would indeed be here his entire career after talk like that. It turns out he jumped ship to the Warriors, a decision many feel he made to "buy himself a championship ring", as he is now another superstar alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

When Durant returned to Chesapeake Energy Arena in a different uniform, he did not receive a warm welcome. Thunder fans booed, some mocked him with cupcake signs and chants. One girl dressed in a cupcake uniform. Some wore t-shirts with the word “KOWARD” printed on the front. The letters K and D in orange and the rest in blue.

So, KD is two games from getting his first championship ring as the Warriors have a 2-0 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now that Durant is nearing his goal of playing on an NBA championship team, I posted a question on a local sports message board, if fans are pulling for him to succeed or fail because he left the Thunder in a lurk.

Some answers are pretty amusing, and I am only citing the user names of the participants.

Oklahoma Dave doesn’t want KD to win anything, “not even a 50 cent coupon for a Slurpee at 7-11. I don't want KD winning a game of paper football. I don't want KD winning jack. He wanted the easy way out, he got it. Roll Cleveland.”

SoonerVikeThunder is not rooting for either the Warriors or Cleveland: “Not pulling for either, only hoping KD does not get a cheaply bought ring.” Ideally KD/Curry/Green/LBJ (LeBron James) all collide and injure themselves in qtr 1 game 1.”

StroudSooner seems to already have forgotten our one-time local hero: “Who?”

Lout really has a hatred for Durant: “Fuck him.”

SoCaliSooner (obviously from the Golden State) said: “Rooting for the California team. The fact that you okies hate him after lauding and praising him for years, just makes it sweeter.”

OU812 is “Pulling for KD bilateral Achilles rupture.”

Augusta also hopes for a KD injury: “Ideally he is injured enough to not play and then Warriors win him the ring.”

“If the Warriors win the title, good for them. What do they want? A fucking cookie? That title will be as meaningful as something you find in a Cracker Jack box,” responded SG1.

Jaxonya compared KD to Judas: “…betraying our lord and King. Lebron is gonna rise on this, the 3rd (day) round ... we are all witnesses.”

“If I was his hamstring, I’d pull for KD,” said oucub23.

Bob Loblaw is hoping Durant gets a ring: “So what if he's ‘ring chasing”? All they have to do is win 2 more games and he'll have a ring. Why would you go to a party where there’s one female and 30 dudes (no, not the bukkake movie you watched last night) when you could go to a party where you’re the only guy and 30 females. I’ll opt for the better odds.

“Bricktown canal vs the bay area? EASY choice. Not being on a team with WB (Westbrook), EASY choice. I hope he wins it, I'm looking forward to the Finals!”

CrimsonOberon is non-committed about KD in the Finals: “To be honest, I can't say I'm pulling for, nor against KD. It is what it is—but what I can say is, I’ve lost all respect for him.”

LouisianaSooners believes if Cleveland wins the title, KD will jump ship to the Cavaliers: “…if the Cavs do beat them, he will try and join them.”

Most of the responses show there is no love lost for our former hero.
