OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hailing from Hawthorne, New Jersey, power-poppers Mike Daly and the Planets have made a nice niche for themselves in the world of melodic rock, with a string of catchy tunes that would fit nicely on the latest International Pop Overthrow compilation, or, like this single track was originally meant for, the opening credits of a popular network sitcom.

Reworked and rewired with his current band, Daly’s latest single “Never Too Late” is a fun piece of two-minute Beatle-esque melodrama (of the Lennon variety, please!), loaded with lush strings and gorgeous harmonies. Daly has said that the song is about how many adults “find themselves taken down life paths they didn’t anticipate,” and, as someone on the cusp of turning 40 himself, the lyrics more than pleasantly hit home, absorbing his words as I’m just sitting here watching the wheels.

I created my own world, and then I stopped to rest / but time had almost passed me by before I could catch my breath…

Any rocker who’s getting older can surely commiserate, so you might as well tap your feet and turn up the Bose headphones, groove along and get into it. Coming out in a full two-minute torrent of head-boppin’ full-force, “Never Too Late” is a perfect appetizer for whatever Daly and crew have coming down the road, be it another single or, c’mon, let’s get on it, a full LP.

It’s been five years since the last one—that’s a little too late for me. I wanna hear what else ya’ll got.
