CD REVIEW:  Cory Morrow – Ramblin Man’ EP  (2010)  Apex Nashville

Red Dirt Report has always considered Texas country singer-songwriter Cory Morrow as one of the most exciting performers and singers on the scene. Morrow has rolled with the punches that have come his way  and on his full-length 2010 release, Brand New Me, we got to hear all about it on great tracks like “Second Chance” and a “A Love Like This.”

Released well over a year ago, Ramblin’ Man is a blink-and-you-miss-it five-song EP that features some solid Morrow material. The name-dropping, rousing, autobiographical title track features that characteristic energy and optimism with flourishes of a soulful organ and country guitar flourishes.

“Wrapped Up In Your Love” is another highlight honky-tonk rocker with fiddle, keys and great roadhouse electric guitar. A great song.

Morrow’s passionate vocal delivery really shines on the melancholy “Lonesome,” which while a little bittersweet features instrumental backing with muscle.

Echoing his earlier, deep-country style, which he really embraced in his early, cowboy-hat-wearin’ days, “Light On the Stage” has an earnest approach that suits his voice well, while the EP closer, “Feels Like Love” is a tender ballad that wraps things up rather nicely.

Cory Morrow has done it all. He bounced back from his 2005 drug arrest and seems to have a new lease on life as a fiercely independent Texas-centric songwriter and musician. His focus is back and the songs on Ramblin’ Man are evident of that.We hope a full batch of new songs is getting prepared for a proper release sometime soon. We want some more Morrow!
