OKLAHOMA CITY- Green Oklahoma is asking Oklahomans to vote for their favorite local green businesses.

Green Oklahoma’s “Best of 2015” contest asks Oklahomans to nominate and vote for their most favored locally owned businesses, organizations, blogs and eco-friendly businesses. Voting for Oklahoma’s Best of 2015 will be up until April 21st.

Categories include Retail Stores, Bakeries, Restaurants, Green Organizations, Green Services, Green Blogs, Natural Farms and Natural Grocery Stores. The top 5 nominations in each of the categories will move on to a final round. The public can once again vote in each category.

Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd.

This contest is a great way for Oklahomans to support their local green businesses, get the word out about their own business, and find out about the best local green services. Participants can vote here.

Buying local produce helps reduce our carbon footprint, and benefits your own health. By the time most produce reaches the grocery store, it has lost about 45% of its original nutrients. These nutrients are lost immediately after it is harvested, so the longer it takes to be transported to the supermarket, the less nutrients it has.

This contest can help you find local food vendors, restaurants and grocery stores that use local produce, for example. Not only will it taste better, but it’s helping to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Nominations must fit the following criteria: The nomination must be locally owned and cannot be a chain, and must be environmentally friendly. All of the contest’s winners will have met these criteria, making it easier for you to find the best local eco-friendly businesses, blogs, etc.

Green Oklahoma has been running this contest for the past two years, making 2015 the contest’s third year. “Each year gets better and better” says Lisa Sharp, the founder of Green Oklahoma.

This contest will help to promote Oklahoma’s own local green businesses, services, blogs and organizations and will help spread and influence other businesses, etc. to go green.
