But more animals are coming in every day and need "forever" homes as well

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Every adoptable homeless dog and cat from OKC Animal Welfare found a family Saturday July 8th, during a free adoption event, but the busy summer season means the shelter is almost full again.

“The event was a huge success,” said Animal Welfare Superintendent Jon Gary. “But we still have more than 500 animals in our care, and the adoption room will be full again by this weekend. We will continue to need the community’s support through these busy summer months.”

The Saturday event featured 158 dog and cat adoptions. There were 22 adoptions Thursday and 39 on Friday, which are strong numbers for those days.

Animal Welfare, 2811 SE 29th Street, is open for adoptions from noon to 5:30 p.m. every day but holidays. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, treated for worms and up-to-date on vaccinations. Go to for more information.
