OKLAHOMA CITY – Despite the problems I had with the service I received the day I visited Joey’s Pizzeria at 700 W. Sheridan, in OKC’s Film Row district, I have to say that the pizza itself was very good.

And when they say “a slice of pizza,” they mean a slice! I’m talking Windy City/Big Apple slice – and that’s big.

I decided to get the breadsticks along with a slice of the Herbivorus Maximus. This had red onions, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli and mozzarella. Yum!

There was a borderline between chewy and crunchy that worked quite well – once I got my slice. Apparently the waitress was new and the manager was very apologetic, giving me a slice of chocolate mousse cake as a token of his appreciation for coming to his restaurant for lunch.

The atmosphere in Joey’s was cozy and inviting. The lunch crowd (it was a Friday) was steady and smiles could be seen on their faces.

It’s too bad I caught them on an off day, service-wise, but that didn’t affect the taste of the pizza which they are known for. It is great to have Joey’s Pizzeria here in Oklahoma City, particularly on Film Row. I’ll be back.
