TULSA, Okla.- At approximately 10:00 AM Friday morning Tulsa County deputies went to 301 West 50th Place to serve a civil pick-up order for a 29-year-old black male identified as Joshua Anthony Barre, who was reported as mentally challenged.

Barre traveled south to the Super Food gas station at 46th Street North and Martin Luther King Boulevard. He was reportedly armed with what the Tulsa Police Department are describing as "two butcher knives". After police unsuccessfully tased Barre, they opened fire before he was able to enter the gas station.

Barre was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

A crowd of demonstrators quickly assembled at the Super Foods and began throwing rocks prompting officers to wear riot gear. When Media Relations Officer Leland Ashley was asked about the riot gear, he responded that “The officers have been put on edge after having rocks and pieces are concrete thrown at them, so you will see some officers carrying shields and wearing helmets.”

After about two hours and with the help of local ministers the crowd dispersed.
