Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association and Red Cross taking the lead

OKLAHOMA CITY -- As Texas and the Gulf Coast reels from massive flooding from Hurricane Harvey, the logistics of getting basic supplies to shelters and those affected is becoming harder and harder.

In an effort to provide aid and comfort to those affected by the storm, the members of the Oklahoma Oil and Gas Association have partnered with the American Red Cross and Oklahoma Red Cross to host a one-day supply drive on Friday to benefit the Red Cross.

Several energy companies will host a coordinated statewide supply drive for not only energy employees, but the general public at numerous locations throughout the state. The public is asked to donate:

 Cases of bottled water

 Pre-packaged snacks with long shelf life

 Hygiene products like toothbrushes, shampoo, feminine products, soap, etc.

 Cleaning supplies and trashbags, etc.

“The American Red Cross has so many great partners, and the oil and gas industry has stepped up,” said Lynn Horton, CEO of the Oklahoma Arkansas Region of The American Red Cross. “When they step up, they step up in a big way. There are hundreds if not thousands living in shelters with thousands of other people, and we sat down with the OKOGA to see what was needed for those in the shelters.”

OKOGA member companies across the state will accept donations from employees and the general public from at the following locations:

Chesapeake Energy, Oklahoma City – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 6100 N. Western Ave., Oklahoma City, 73118

Halliburton, Midwest City – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 6917 S. Air Depot Blvd., Oklahoma City 73135

“We had people on our campus today ready to load up their own trucks and bring supplies down to Texas,” said Frank Patterson, executive vice-president for Exploration and Production for Chesapeake Energy. “Instead, we are partnering with the Red Cross. The problem is distribution. The best way to make sure the good get to where they are needed most is to distribute through the Red Cross.”

Donated goods will support the American Red Cross chapters on the front lines of Hurricane Harvey response, not just in Houston, but throughout the Gulf Coast, Patterson said. “We hope the public responds to this and helps out as well.”
