WASHINGTON, DC -- A document entitled Penttbom Case Summary,  from the files of the 9/11 Commission and released by the U.S. National Archives, confirms that Mohammed Atta and two other 9/11 hijackers were at the Wiley Post Airport in Bethany, Oklahoma, during the six months prior to the attacks.  In the same time period, confessed terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui was taking flight lessons in Norman, about 20 miles south of Bethany.  The document was requested by Michael Wright, an independent 9/11 researcher in Norman, Oklahoma.

In its final report, the 9/11 Commission claimed that they were "unaware of any evidence" of a meeting between Atta and Moussaoui.

In May  2002, former State Department terrorism expert Larry Johnson described the Atta-Moussoui meeting during an interview with Bill O'Reilly of Fox News.

In August 2002, the meeting was reported in the LA Weekly of Los Angeles.  Jayna Davis, a KFOR television news reporter at the time of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, wrote about the meeting in her book The Third Terrorist.  Wright informed the 9/11 Commission of the meeting in an email sent in September 2003.

In his book Inside Al Qaeda, terrorism expert Rohan Gunaratna referred to the Oklahoma Al Qaeda cell.  Gunaratna testified before t he 9/11 Commission.

Before being mailed from the Archives to Wright, the 9/11 Penttbom document had been released to the History Commons website and placed online.

After reviewing the Penttbom document, Oklahoma City-based independent 9/11 researchers Andrew Griffin and Chris Emery called for "a new, independent investigation into 9/11" and added "this information helps provide a good place to start."
