OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fed up with an arrogant and out-of-control federal government, particularly in light of the recently signed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, signed by President Barack Obama, Americans from all walks of life are organizing a protest the Founding Fathers would be proud of.
With news reports revealing that the national debt is spinning out of control and is seriously jeopardizing the American way of life, these government bailout initiatives, according to organizers "amount to reaching into our pockets and indebting our children in order for the government to spend its way out of a crisis." That crisis includes uncontrolled spending and intrusive government controls on the economy caused in the first place.
So, tomorrow, Friday, February 27th at 11 a.m., patriotic Oklahomans - and Americans in cities across the nation - will be gathering to show their displeasure with the bailout plans. These rallies are to show the increasingly bloated and tyrannical federal government that the American people are fed up.
Oklahoma City protest organizer Alan Webb told Red Dirt Report that some local politicians had been slated to speak at Friday's rally on the Capitol steps but that was scrapped so it wouldn't look like politicians grandstanding. Rather, local conservative radio personalities like Mark Shannon and Ron Black have been invited to speak.
"We started so late for Oklahoma City for this rally," Webb said. "Our agenda is to show we are not supportive of this bailout bill and be supportive of other cities participating. We are going to be one of the smaller gatherings. We want to show our support."
Webb said the protest will begin around 11 a.m., just as other "tea party" gatherings take place around the country.
"This won't be a grandstanding event," Webb said. "The Tulsa event will be bigger. They have been planning a lot longer."
Webb said this should not be a political rally or an Obama bashing event. In fact, he has Obama supporters who plan to attend the rally.
"They are against Congress spending wastefully," Webb said.
Organizers of the tea parties note that after several trillion dollars are poured down the hole of inefficient, bloated corporations, the people have had enough, much like CNBC's Rick Santelli who triggered the call for change and spurred the Chicago Tea Party, which triggered the spread of "tea parties" across America.
Notes their press release: "Like the overtaxed Colonists over 200 years ago, the Tea Party organizers say that they are stepping forward to show their displeasure, saying in a press release; "President Obama and Congress, we Americans shout in unison: "Are you listening?!?!"
All these government bailout initiatives amount to reaching into our pockets and indebting our children in order for the government to spend its way out of a crisis that uncontrolled spending and intrusive government controls on the economy caused in the first place, adds the press release.
In Oklahoma City, it will be held on the steps of the State Capitol while in Tulsa it will be held at Veteran's Park at 21st and Boulder.
And in Tulsa, organizer Jai Blevins confirmed that Tulsa County Republican Chairman Sally Bell will open up the event and be followed by SJR 10 "10th Amendment Sovereignty" author Sen. Randy Brogdon of Owasso as well as Sen. Mike Ritze, and closing with economics expert and author Jerry Robinson.
"This thing was a quick turnaround from start to finish," Blevins said. "I've been on KRMG and KFAQ and have been promoting it pretty extensively. It's going to be pretty big."
Concerned, at first, that he would be the only one at the event, holding a sign and "wearing a tinfoil hat," Blevins told Red Dirt Report that he has 50 confirmed attendees and more than that who have contacted him and expressed interest in attending.
"It's turning out to be quite an event," Blevins said, noting that it will be featured on Twitter, run by a local radio station.
"We have thought this out and are going to set the reasons why this is wrong," Blevins said of their opposition to the bailout.
And back here in Oklahoma City, Webb said while it will be a smaller event it will be no less forceful in its message to the government.
"Our peaceful protest starting on Capitol steps and will last about an hour," Webb said.
