Retired Major General Jerry R. Curry enters Presidential Race – and asserts Hillary has forfeited her ability to be Commander in Chief

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - On January 24, 2008, Maj. Gen. Jerry R. Curry (U.S. Army Ret.) announced his entry as a Republican candidate into the presidential election campaign. He was speaking at the Annual Helen Cole/Republican of the year Banquet, held at the J.D McCarty Center in Norman , OK .

Seen by many as a dark horse candidate with a long shot chance of winning the Republican nomination, Curry launched his campaign with both guns blazing, outlining his years of military and governmental leadership and his commitment to conservative values.  He also showed in his remarks that he would take the battle for the presidency right to the front lines:

In his hard-hitting speech, he asserted that Hillary could not fulfill the duties as Commander in Chief because of her previous example in dealing with our military. He holds that she forfeited her ability to be an effective Commander in Chief when she called General Petraus a liar last year in front of the U.S. Senate.

“She did this with no cause, and no facts to back her up, without even paying him the respect of having a private conversation with him. It was just a cheap political stunt, and it undermined our military leadership’s loyalty and confidence in the office of the president—should she be elected. Because of this cowardly act—she knows full well that General Petraus is not allowed to defend himself against her allegations—she has forfeited her right to EVER become the Commander in Chief of our Military forces.

If she would unfairly malign the integrity and reputation of one of our finest Generals without cause, what would she do to our Armed Forces should she come President and Commander in Chief?”

For many months, Americans have said repeatedly that they are not satisfied with the contenders seeking to be the Republican Nominee for President—that they are still waiting for a “dark horse” candidate to emerge that will capture their imagination and gain their respect as the person best able to lead this country. Many people believe Jerry R. Curry to be that person, and have urged him to enter the race.

Placing his name on the presidential primary ballots in Oklahoma , Louisiana and Arizona , his campaign is steadily adding states in which he will run. In his words, “I am running for President because I am convinced that none of the current candidates—of either party—can fix America ’s problems, can protect us from the uncommon danger we face, can secure our liberties, and can get the job done right and on time with all the urgency the situation demands.”

His website, www.CurryforAmerica.com , sets out his detailed policy positions on a wide array of issues and includes Curry’s pledge to the American people to: work to ensure the safety and security of the American people, secure U.S. borders, uphold and enforce immigration laws, strengthen the American economy, protect American jobs, enhance health care provisions for all Americans, and support the sanctity of life.

Curry has chosen Oklahoma as the state in which to announce his candidacy and launch his campaign because the people of Oklahoma have already responded so favorably to him. As the heartland of the country, Gen. Curry feels Oklahoma is a proving ground for his message, believing that if it resonates in this state, it will resonate with the American people everywhere. He also feels a fond attachment to Oklahoma because he was posted at Fort Sill during the 1950’s, and his oldest daughter—Charlie—was born there.

General Curry’s experience in military leadership gives him a unique advantage in addressing the war on terror.  Once called the “ablest tactical commander in the entire U.S. Army,” Curry understands the importance of giving our soldiers and their commanders—as well as our intelligence agencies—the flexibility and resources they need to succeed.

His leadership experience extends through three presidential administrations.  He was the military Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Carter administration; the Press Secretary to the Secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration; and, the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the Bush Sr. administration.

His mixed racial and cultural ancestry represents a rich cross section of many backgrounds—as colorful as America itself—having descended from African American slaves and freemen, Native Americans, French, Irish and Scottish. Jerry Curry is an American for America .

Gen. Curry will be campaigning throughout the state from January 22nd - 29th. His preliminary schedule is on the campaign website at www.CurryforAmerica.com
