OKLAHOMA CITY – Things are getting pretty heated in
Oklahoma’s 2nd District congressional race between Republican Markwayne
Mullin and Democrat Rob Wallace.
The Oklahoma Republican Party has launched a new
website called JailBreakWallace.com. Highlighting Wallace’s role as a
prosecutor and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma,
the bare bones website – www.jailbreakwallace.com
-- starts off with: “Need a Get out of Jail Free Card? Call Rob Wallace!”
Over the course of the website, used to highlight
Wallace’s “soft-on-crime” approach, we meet former convicts like shotgun-wielding
John Edward Heavener or a violent character like Daniel Lee Wilson.
The site, notes the OKGOP, is “to highlight Rob
Wallace’s record of offering plea bargains to criminals who later went on to
commit further crimes, some including violent crime and even murder.”
The site notes that throughout his campaign, Wallace
has highlighted his experience as a prosecutor as a reason voters in the 2nd
District should support his candidacy. Yet, notes the new site, when Wallace
was under consideration to become the US Attorney for the Eastern District of
Oklahoma in 2009, the White House suddenly ceased their vetting of Wallace.
And then there are the business failings, as
Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell notes in the “Jailbreak Wallace”
press release: “Much like his repeated business failings, it would appear Mr.
Wallace’s record as a prosecutor is one of failure.”
We have contacted candidate Wallace through his
website, www.robwallace2012.com,
seeking comment. We will update this story if we do hear from the candidate.
