OKLAHOMA CITY – This Friday, the Cimarron Alliance,
Central Oklahoma’s pre-eminent LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender)
advocacy and education organization will host its 2012 LGBT History Month Gala
at the Will Rogers Theater here in Oklahoma City.
Since 1984, October has been known in the United
State as “LGBT History Month” and is, according to Wikipedia, a “month-long
observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history of the gay rights
and related civil rights movements. It also includes “National Coming Out Day”
which is on October 11.
Among those receiving honors at the gala include:

Oklahoma: Excellence in Media Award

Martin: Social Media Award

Sen. Al McAffrey: Legislative Award
Norman
City Councilman Tom Kovach: Legislative Award
Laura
Eskridge: Excellence in Education Award

Sophia Schonauer: Torch Award
Robin
Dorner: Community Ally Award
Sonja
Martinez: Bill Rogers Lifetime Achievement Award
Scott Hamilton, executive director of the Cimarron
Alliance said the event will be a “fun-filled night” which will include a
silent auction with deals on art, entertainment packages, and other intriguing
items. The Will Rogers Theater is located at 4322 N. Western Avenue.
Individual tickets start at $150 and sponsor tables
