OKLAHOMA CITY – Walking inside Studio Blue at 1802
N. Shartel Ave., you walk into a room that is largely devoid of any furniture
or anything else.
But that’s on purpose. And despite the sparse
interior, Studio Blue has a decidedly cozy atmosphere that is intimate and
inviting at the same time.
The owner, Bethany Blue, explained that she had
worked at a day spa, and while it was a pleasant enough experience, it did not
offer the sort of healthful, transcendent sort of feeling she felt her clients
deserved.
“(The day spa) was full of flowers and hand bags,”
Blue said. “It was a place for pampering, not meditative.”
The smell of salon-ready fake nails and flowers is
not for Blue. Naturally-made oils and organic scents – not overwhelming, of
course - are more Blue’s speed.
“Massage in Oklahoma is more what you see in a strip
mall or in the back of a nail salon,” Blue said. “I think they should get more
out of their experience than that.”
Added Blue, a smile on her face as she described a
typical salon experience: “Women laughing and getting their nails done when you
are trying to get a moment of serenity?”
Blue said she got to Oklahoma City from her hometown
of Shawnee last October and after two moves finally settled on the office space
on Shartel in Oklahoma City’s Mesta Park neighborhood.
“I like the place,” Blue said. “It’s a little off
the beaten path, yet right in the middle of Oklahoma City.”
Blue said that with Studio Blue she wanted to fill a
niche that wasn’t being filled. While there are yoga studios in town, she said
they don’t do massage therapy.”
She said her interest in massage therapy, which she
is licensed to conduct, came about because her son had stomach issues that
needed tending to. Already considering “granola” by her family, Blue said she
looked at alternative, healthy therapies and massage therapy seemed to make a
lot of sense.
“It came about so naturally,” Blue said, noting that
she makes herself very “open” to others while also
Blue has worked hard to make Studio Blue an open, welcoming
and healing sort of space.
“I want to get people in here to be who are, and do
what they want to do,” Blue said.
On Saturday mornings, Studio Blue will hold yoga
sessions in neighboring Perle Mesta Park. She has a young woman working for her
who offers Thai massage. Zumba and pilates are also offered as she builds her
business.
“I like working people’s muscles and improving their
flexibility,” she said. “I really like the human body. I want to heal it.”
And if that’s not enough, Blue offers a natural body
detox that gives you a cleansing, energetic feeling.
Blue said a number of clients from her previous
studios are coming to Studio Blue now and she encourages one and all to come by
and give Studio Blue a try. Your body will thank you!
